This is a picture of the bathroom at the George Eastman House. I wandered around the mansion this afternoon surreptitiously snapping iphone photos when I realized that if ever there was a museum to unabashedly take pictures, this was it.
I learned that Eastman was a close friend of Thomas Edison as well as a philanthropist devoted to improving the world’s dental hygiene. He also invented roll film and was the first person to standardize photography equipment through his company, Kodak.
The word Kodak, he decided, “must not be derived in whole or part from any existing word… it must be short; incapable of being misspelled so as to destroy its identity; must have a vigorous and distinctive personality; and must meet the requirements of the various foreign trademarks.”
